FERNBANK SUMMER CAMP: TUITION DUE MAY 4TH
For those of you who have registered up for our summer camp, this is a reminder that tuition of $125/week is due by May 4th.
ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS!!
We have started collecting baby pictures for the traditional 5th Grade Graduation Banquet Then/Now slideshow. Please email a baby picture of your 5th grader (300 DPI or larger) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to note your child's name and homeroom teacher. The 5th grade formals will be used as the "now" picture. If you only have a hard copy of the baby picture, you can bring it to the front office in an envelope that says "5th Grade Baby Pictures" with your child's name and teacher on the back of the picture so we can get it back to you. The deadline to turn in pictures is this Friday, April 27th. Please feel free to contact Susan Stephenson at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Have you paid your 5th grade dues??
Please send in $50 per 5th grader! Dues pay for end of year activities such as the 5th grade party, the 5th grade graduation and reception, the class gift and teacher gifts. Fernbank has been so good to our kiddos and they have worked so hard, let’s make sure we give them a send off they deserve! The Fifth grade committee relies on dues to make this possible. Questions? Contact Alyse Ramer at firstname.lastname@example.org
SALAD DAY IS AROUND THE CORNER!
One of our teachers' favorite days of the year is coming up on Friday May 4th!
Help them celebrate Spring (and the end of Milestones testing) by providing the teachers and staff with a yummy spring lunch. We are asking parents to provide a variety of salads (greens, fruit, pasta, chicken salads, etc) for them to enjoy.
Sign up here if you are able to bring something!
You can drop your items in the teacher workroom adjacent to the media center or in the front office. Please drop off no later than 10am (Kindergarten eats early!)
CELEBRATE NATIONAL POEM-IN-YOUR-POCKET DAY THIS THURSDAY
Did you know that April is National Poetry Month?! We are sharing poetry in our library with students and teachers all month long. Perhaps YOU will be someone who will have a POEM in your POCKET this thursday, April 26, to celebrate National Poem-In-Your-Pocket Day!
Here at Fernbank Elementary we have been celebrating this excellent day for almost 10 years. The idea is simple....no rules or planned events. Students, staff, and teachers -- Just select a poem you love, write it down or type it up on a piece of paper, then carry it in your pocket. Throughout the day (when appropriate!) perhaps you might pull out your poem and read it aloud to someone.
The library will provide pocket poems for K and 1st in case students don't bring their own, and we will have a bunch of extras for any older student who want them.
ALL LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE BY MAY 11TH
In just 3 short weeks our library will be closing. All student books are officially due May 11, or as soon after as possible.
For the last 2 weeks of school, Ms. Jacobs--- aka "The Library Sheriff" --- will be joined by her trusty Deputy, Ms. Richmond, as we round up all the books (or replacement-cost-fees) and get the Library Ranch ready for next year!
We will be sad to close the library, but-- Hurrah!--- the PTA will be bringing Scholastic Spring BookFair to the Library May 14-18! Look out for more information coming soon.
ANNUAL BOOK FLOAT PARADE IS FRIDAY MAY 18TH
Many thanks to our teachers, students, and families for preparing to celebrate favorite books during our Fernbank tradition of the Annual BookFloat Parade. All are invited to attend 1:15-1:45 pm, as our school parades around the parking lot on Friday, May 18, in front of school.
Each class is selecting a favorite book, author, or series to celebrate in a variety of parade-style ways. Our 5th grade band will be playing music to march by. More information will come later!
HAPPY EARTH WEEK, FERNBANK FAMILIES!
This week (April 23-27) is Earth Week!!!!!
We will have collection boxes in front for used markers, shoes that no longer fit or you no longer wear (for donation/reuse), and batteries. Please bring these items in this week for recycling. Thank you!!
Plastic Film Challenge
Thank you for your participation in our plastic film collection. We collected over 100 pounds of plastic film since February!! This waste will be recycled into useful products!! Thank you for keeping that plastic out of our landfills and waterways!!
You can continue recycling your plastic film at various markets/shops (Sprouts, Wal-Mart, Publix, Kroger) or even better, buy things in bulk, bring your own produce bags, refuse plastic when offered. Make less trash!! We all can all make mindful choices to help reduce our world's plastic consumption.
Caught you Green Handed!! and Start a Green Habit
Thank you first graders Olive Murphy for refusing straws and plastic tops,Henry Duke for spotting a wall of recycled glass at a museum and for planting a tree just in time for earth day, and Nicholas Kennedy for reusing, composting, conserving water and doing so many great things to help our environment!!!
Thank you for taking green actions and being kind to our earth. Your names will be submitted for a raffle for earth week prizes.
Please email us photos and/or tell us about Fernbank students caught taking green actions. Some examples include: bringing re-usable water bottles, refusing straws, planting a garden, turning faucet off when brushing teeth, packing a waste free lunch. Also, you can start a green habit this week with your family! Email us photos and/or tell us about it.
Send us your child's name/grade/homeroom and we will have a raffle for our earth week ambassadors!! The more entries you submit, the greater chances of winning, the more you do to protect our earth, the better the planet is for everyone.
