THIS WEEK'S HEADLINES
Welcome Back from Spring Break!
TESTING STARTS TOMORROW! VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED
The week after we return from Spring Break, 3rd thru 5th graders will begin testing.
We still need volunteers to be hall monitors during our Milestones and MAP testing periods. The testing periods are from 7:50-11:30 am. You don't have to work the whole shift to help out. If you can help, please sign up! Please make a note if you can only work a partial shift.
Before your child starts testing:
Limit evening activities prior to testing so that adequate time is provided for rest.
Discuss the importance of testing with your son/daughter.
Provide two #2 pencils daily.
Provide a nutritious breakfast.
Ensure your child is present and on time each morning. If possible, please avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during the testing period.
If an issue arises that may impact your child’s performance, please contact a school counselor.
If you have questions regarding any aspect of testing, please contact Simone Willingham at 678-874-9302.
THINK ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP FERNBANK NEXT YEAR
Are you good with numbers?
Are you good with spreadsheets?
Do you have ideas about fundraising and incentives?
Do you like writing?
Whatever you're good at - we would love to tap into YOUR talents!
Take our volunteer survey now to let us know where you might be able to lend a hand.
We know it can be overwhelming to think about volunteering when you're new to Fernbank or have been here a while but just don't know where you might make the biggest impact. So, we have created a special volunteer page for you! Read all about our various leadership groups and committees, then take our volunteer survey so we can best match your talents and availability with our needs.
Fernbank can't run without the active participation our parents! There's an opportunity for everyone to engage, no matter your schedule.
Join us Wednesday at 6pm at our PTA general meeting if you have any questions about volunteering. We will be setting an executive slate for the 2017-18 school year. There's still time to nominate someone (including yourself!) for an executive role - just let us know ASAP! Email email@example.com
FERNBANK FOLLIES VARIETY SHOW APPLICATIONS ARE DUE THURSDAY!
For those of you who don't know, the Fernbank Follies is a super fun talent show put on by students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. It will be held Friday, May 11th at 6pm. Students must submit an application and "audition" to be accepted and may perform in only once during the show.
Applications must be submitted by this Thursday! Packets went home in the courier right before Spring Break. Didn't get one? Download it here.
FERNBANK SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION EXTENDED
Considering the busy, busy week we had prior to Spring Break, we realize that some people may have had the opportunity to register for camp. We're extending the deadline until April 20th to make sure everyone has a chance to register.
Fernbank Elementary offers a fun-filled summer camp for rising Kindergartners through rising 6th grade students. It's a perfect way for new students to get introduced to the school!
Dates for 2018 are the following:
June 4th - 8th Ocean Adventure
June 11th - 15th Lost in Space
June 18th - 22nd Secret Garden
June 25th - 29th Imagination Station
Registration forms and a $50 deposit per child are due by March 30th.
Tuition of $125/week is due by May 4th.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STATE REFLECTIONS WINNERS!
Congratulations to Frances Shepherd and Margaret Shepherd for both placing First in Literature for the Pre-K level at State!
Zoe Marshall, Fourth Grade, placed Fourth in the State Competition for Dance Choreography. Congratulations!
LOOKING FOR A FUN RUN T-SHIRT?
Have you seen the cute T-shirts from the Fun Run?? Want one?
If you ordered and PAID for a T-shirt but didn't pick it up, email Sara Blanchard and we will get it to you!
If you ordered a T-shirt but did not submit payment online, you can purchase it and pick it up in the school store.
If you'd like a T-shirt but didn't preorder, that's okay! You can buy them from the school store directly. It's open from 7:20 - 7:40 am Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
LONG PANTS NEEDED IN THE CLINIC
Not surprisingly, our clinic goes though quite a few clothes in a week. Some are washed and returned but some get mixed up in clothes at home and never make it back.
Ms. Fenlon would like to ask parents to consider donating some pants (size 5 and up) that your child has outgrown. Girls and boys styles would be great! She has plenty of underwear and t-shirts...just a shortage of long pants.
Drop them off straight to the clinic. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
PLEASE CONTINUE BRINGING IN YOUR PLASTIC FILM!
Fernbank—we collected 34 pounds of plastic film in March!!! This plastic will be reused and repurposed!!
The challenge is still on through earth day in April!! Please bring in your plastic film and drop off in the collection boxes. We are keeping the plastic out of our waterways and landfills.
Thank you for being kind to our Earth from Go Green!!
