FERNBANK'S WEEKLY NEWS DIGEST!
THIS WEEK'S HEADLINES
MONDAY AUGUST 28, 2017
CURRICULUM NIGHTS ARE THIS WEEK! TUESDAY: PK-2ND, WEDNESDAY: 3RD-5TH
Curriculum nights are divided into two evenings - Tuesday for PreK through 2nd grade, and Wednesday for 3rd - 5th grade.
6:00 PM - Fernbank PTA General Meeting: Learn more about Fernbank and get answers to any questions you may have. This is the first and largest PTA meeting of the year. 30 minutes ONLY.
At 6:30 PM, parents will be dismissed to go to their child's classroom to meet with his/her teacher for an overview of this year's curriculum, class schedule, homework, etc. This time is also limited to 30 minutes. There will be some time for general classroom/curriculum Q&A, but one-on-one discussions about individual students should be scheduled as a private conference with the teacher.
Please be courteous and respectful of the properties nearby when parking for school events like this one. Do not block driveways, park over curbs, or walk across our neighbors' lawns. Thank you for your help keeping Fernbank in good favor with the neighborhood!
A FEW SPOTS LEFT IN SOME FIRST SEMESTER CLUBS!
Even though our registration period is technically closed, there are a limited number of spots available in some After School Clubs! Check out our club page to see what's still available. You will email club vendors directly to secure a spot, unless it's a teacher/parent sponsored club (in which case you will still register via our Fernbank Online Store.
JUNIOR GREAT BOOKS
Please consider registering your 1st-5th grader for Junior Great Books (JGB)! It is a nationally-recognized reading and discussion program designed to help students increase their speaking confidence, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
At Fernbank, JGB is offered as a lunchtime enrichment program for 1st through 5th grade students. Groups of six to 10 students meet with one or two parent volunteer-leaders to discuss stories from their grade-specific JGB book. Meetings are once or twice a month during your child's regularly scheduled lunch period, from September through April. Students will bring a packed lunch from home on their meeting days.
A NOTE FROM THE P.E. COACHES
Please remember that students need to wear the appropriate shoes to PE class. The shoes need to be flat bottom with closed toes and heels. If your child is wearing a dress or skirt, please have them put shorts underneath.
If you child is sick or injured, a parent note will excuse them for three days. Any longer we need a doctor's note.
We are in need of tennis rackets for our tennis unit. If you have an old one you want to donate, please send it in.
We are excited for a great, active school year!
INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL PHOTOS
Individual school photos will take place on September 6th, 7th, and 8th. We love our beautiful school portraits, and they would not exist without the hard work of the photographer and parent volunteers.
Please consider helping! We are looking for parent volunteers to assist the photographers and a parent to act as Photo Coordinator to help organize and coordinate the volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please contact us at email@example.com
