THIS WEEK'S HEADLINES
TONIGHT (MONDAY) IS...NO COOKING DINNER DAY!
That’s right, take the evening off! Instead, take your family to Chipotle at Emory Village from 5-9 PM - it’s a fundraiser for Fernbank’s Fabulous Fifth Grade! Enjoy dinner - no cooking or cleaning - and support the Fabulous Fifth….it’s a WIN/WIN!
Tell them you're with Fernbank so the 5th grade can get 50% of the evening's proceeds!!
PRE-K LOTTERY IS TOMORROW, TUESDAY MARCH 20TH
Parents who have not yet registered their child for the Pre-K lottery can come tomorrow, Tuesday, March 20th, before 12:30 pm to do so. The drawing will be held at 1:15 PM. Parents do not have to be present for the drawing; they will be notified afterward.
To register for the lottery, bring in a copy of your child's birth certificate and proof of residence in Fernbank's school zone (Utility bill or lease/mortgage). Then you will fill out a lottery form.
There are 44 spaces - keeping our fingers crossed for you!
REPORT CARDS WILL COME HOME WEDNESDAY
All Fernbank Couriers will go home on Wednesday for all students in Pre-K - 5th grade and the 9 Week Progress Reports for students will be included.
CHORAL CONCERT HAS BEEN MOVED!
The 4th and 5th grade choral concert was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd. We have moved the concert to the following Thursday, March 29th. The concert will begin at 6pm - students should be in place on the risers no later than 5:55pm.
Why was it moved?
Many of our students have siblings at Druid Hills Middle School which is holding the DHMS Fine Arts and Science Night (see below) the same evening.
THIS THURSDAY IS DRUID HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL'S ARTS AND SCIENCE NIGHT. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY!
Come celebrate the Fine Arts and Science Night at DHMS Thursday, March 22nd at 6pm!
Watch these awesome performances:
6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands
Recent Art work of DHMS students will be on display
Hands On Science Experiments will be set up by DHMS students
Bring the whole family for a night of enjoyment and learning!!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK STARTS NEXT MONDAY 3/26
If you haven't already, you will be hearing soon from your room parents about special things you can do to recognize your teacher and support staff next week. Make sure to reach out if you haven't heard anything by mid this week.
Next Friday, March 30th, is the PTA sponsored appreciation luncheon featuring food from Taqueria del Sol for teachers and staff. It is an extended lunch for the teachers and we will need 2 parents to supervise the class while teacher enjoys this lunch treat.
Please sign up if you could volunteer to watch the class for an hour. After lunch, you will escort the children back to their classroom and watch them until your teacher gets back from PTA lunch. Hours are detailed in the sign up!
Thanks in advance for participating!
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING PENNIES FOR PATIENTS
I want to thank teachers, students and parents for participating in Pennies for Patients! I am so impressed by the total we collected as a school...$3,326.22! That is amazing!
The three homerooms that donated the most money were: Ms. Johnson's 2nd grade class ($448.90) Ms. Davis' 1st grade class ($244.45) and Ms. Kaunelis' 3rd grade class ($180.80)! This money goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Thank you again for always supporting our charitable efforts here at Fernbank!

FERNBANK SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! FORMS ARE DUE 3/30
Fernbank Elementary offers a fun-filled summer camp for rising Kindergartners through rising 6th grade students. It's a perfect way for new students to get introduced to the school!
Dates for 2018 are the following:
June 4th - 8th Ocean Adventure
June 11th - 15th Lost in Space
June 18th - 22nd Secret Garden
June 25th - 29th Imagination Station
Registration forms and a $50 deposit per child are due by March 30th.
Tuition of $125/week is due by May 4th.
PLEASE PAY OVERDUE CAFETERIA CHARGES ASAP!
As of today, we have a great deal of negative, or unpaid, cafeteria balances. We want to feed our students a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day but if these negative balances are not paid, we can't continue to do so. We will have to serve those students with negative balances a courtesy meal.
What constitutes a courtesy meal?
Elementary students may charge meals occasionally when money is unavailable and the students would have to miss meal service. They may charge up to three breakfasts and three lunches. This is a courtesy extended to the students and should not occur on a regular basis.
After a student has exceeded the three charges for breakfast and three for lunch, a courtesy meal will be provided until the balance is paid. A courtesy breakfast meal consists of toast and jelly and 8 oz. milk or 4 oz. juice. Lunch consists of a grilled cheese sandwich and milk.
Your children and their well-being is of paramount importance to us! We have been sending out negative balance letters and emails so that you will be aware of your child's balances. We would greatly appreciate it if you would take care of these balances as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Barrett (nutritional manager) or Ms. Morrow (assistant manager) at 678-874-9328.
YEARBOOKS HAVE GONE TO PRINT! HAVE YOU ORDERED YOURS?
THE CLINIC COULD USE SOME PANTS!
The yearbook pages have been completed, and the book has gone to press as of the end of February. It will be delivered in May to the homeroom teachers.
Online ordering will end March 31. Orders were on the Super Bill at Open House, but afterwards they have been online through Jostens. The yearbook committee has recently sent emails to each class (teachers and room parents) confirming orders we have received for that class. Check with them if you aren’t sure you ordered.
Order your yearbook now online for $45 directly at Jostens.
Get started now: (enter Fernbank in first white field)
Enter Fernbank for Name, and select it from options that appear below

*Remember to enter the homeroom teacher’s name, but please do not add Mr., Ms. or Mrs. because it messes up the reporting.
Not surprisingly, our clinic goes though quite a few clothes in a week. Some are washed and returned but some get mixed up in clothes at home and never make it back.
Ms. Fenlon would like to ask parents to consider donating some pants (size 5 and up) that your child has outgrown. Girls and boys styles would be great! She has plenty of underwear and t-shirts...just a shortage of bottoms.
Drop them off straight to the clinic. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
MILESTONES TESTING HELP NEEDED
When we return from Spring Break, we will need volunteers to be hall monitors during our Milestones and MAP testing periods. The testing periods are from 7:50-11:30 am. You don't have to work the whole shift to help out.
If you can help, please sign up! Please make a note if you can only work a partial shift.
For any questions related to PTA programs/events or to provide feedback, please email our co-presidents Cindy Spalding and Beth Collums at
