THIS WEEK'S HEADLINES
THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7TH, IS GEORGIA'S WALK TO SCHOOL DAY!
Students from Fernbank Elementary are joining students from many other Georgia schools to celebrate the benefits of walking/biking to school. Our goal for all children at Fernbank to participate!
Walking/biking to school helps promote:
• Healthier students
• Safer streets
• Stronger communities
• A cleaner environment
Ride a bus? YOU ARE ALREADY DOING YOUR PART to help with all of the above!
Live too far away?
• Coordinate with a friend who lives closer to meet up and walk with them
• Park on a nearby street and walk the rest of the way
**NEW incentives for all participants!**
A GREAT NIGHT HEARING FROM FORMER FERNBANKERS ABOUT DHMS!
DRUID HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL RISING 6TH GRADE OPEN HOUSE
Last Wednesday, several former Fernbank students who are currently attending Druid Hills Middle School were at Fernbank sharing their experiences about the school. Our 5th graders had the opportunity to write down questions in advance for the DHMS students to answer in the casual, round table forum. We also heard from a DHMS Assistant Principal, Ms. Henning, and 6th grade counselor, Ms. Bonner. Thank you to everyone who participated - it was a great event! I think the rising 6th graders are getting pumped for next year!

GA SCHOOL CLIMATE PARENT SURVEY
Parents & Guardians:
We would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to participate in the annual Georgia School's Parent Survey. The data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents will be able to complete the survey using their personal computers, smartphones or tablets. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Take the survey now.
Georgia Student Health Survey II
The Georgia Student Health Survey for third - fifth grade is a brief 15 minute survey. Please encourage students to take the questions seriously and answer truthfully. The results are used to guide each school's School Climate Initiatives, provide direction for health curriculum, provide goals for drug prevention education, and more.
Parents can opt their child out of this survey by completing a Passive Permission/Opt Out Form for their child's grade level. Copies of the student survey questions, and parent permission forms are available on this webpage.
Participation is voluntary; however, each school must obtain 75 percent student participation to receive a Climate Star Rating.
For any questions related to PTA programs/events or to provide feedback, please email our co-presidents Cindy Spalding and Beth Collums at
