EXTENDING THE SCHOOL DAY BY 20 MINUTES
To make up instructional time lost due to Irma, Dr. Green, Superintendent for DeKalb County Schools, announced Friday that we will be extending our school day by 20 minutes beginning October 2nd.
We haven't worked out all of the details yet - about how this will impact our daily schedule, dismissal timing, after school activities, etc - but I will let you know as soon as we do!

NEWS FROM THE FERNBANK LIBRARY
It has been a busy 2 months in our library---over the next few weeks we will finally be sharing information and news about the 2017-18 Fernbank Library program.
New this year--- Class library visits this year are mostly part of the Specials Rotation.
preK visits weekly when we are not in a testing session.
Kindergarten-3rd visits for lesson and checkout every 7 days during Specials
4th and 5th visit weekly for checkout
The Library is not able to offer independent student checkout this year.
The Library has been able to check out books since mid-August, thanks to having "Book Mobile" carts visiting classes during Specials time while the library was used for testing. That means that a lot of students have been reading our books, hurrah!
As this session of testing winds down and we put away the Bookmobile carts and get back into the Library again, we have finally started sending weekly Overdue notices home in courier. Please look out for these and help your child keep up with their library books.
Books are overdue after 2 weeks.
We do not charge fines, but ask for family to pay replacement cost for lost books.
Unless a student has overdue book(s), the following limits are followed:
preK checks out books but keeps them in classroom
K may check out 1 at time
1st has been checking out 1 at a time, but will soon go to 2 at a time
2nd may check out 2 at a time.
3rd, 4th, 5th may check out 3 at a time
PLEASE SAVE YOUR PLASTICS FOR US!
The kids go GREEN + recycling club needs your PLASTIC for an upcoming project.
Please save your plastic tops (which are hard to recycle) and bring them in and drop off in the box at the entrance of school.
Also, please save your WASHED plastics (salad containers, takeout containers, coffee cup lids, bags, cutlery etc). Many of these are single-use items that usually end up in the trash-- sitting in landfills and polluting our oceans and land. We will have a collection box for these plastics next to the tops box.
Thank you and BE GREEN Fernbank!!
