TODAY'S HEADLINES

A Quick Reminder

A reminder: Our afternoons are busy! Please contact us before 12:30 if you need to change the way your child is going home or staying after school.  Last minute changes are hard for our teachers and we want to make sure that every child reaches their destination safely.

Likewise, if you need to check your child out early for an appointment, please do so before 1:30 p.m.  Thank you for understanding the challenge we face in the front office and respecting these times!

Ms. Ray

Parents!

We are so excited to be hosting our very first parent social next Thursday Sept 13, at Big Tex in downtown Decatur from 7-9pm!

This event was created just for you, as an opportunity for you to get to know one another and feel a part of this awesome Fernbank community.

We know weeknights can be tough, but we promise it will be worth the effort! Take a break from the kids and enjoy a tasty Mexican dinner and have a couple of fun drinks - both are included in the price of your ticket!

Don't delay - get your tickets today!!!

DIG IN THE DIRT WITH US!  GARDEN CLUB WORK DAY SATURDAY, SEPT. 8!

Meet us at the Fernbank Garden, located behind the right side of the school.  Questions? Contact Diana Shoemaker at shoemaker.diana@gmail.com or Betsy Wallace at  betsyjwallace@gmail.com  Sign up to volunteer here.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CREATIVITY TEST RESULTS?

Parents of students who were administered the Torrance Test of Creativity in the spring, the results are finally here!  Please look for an envelope in your child’s courier on Thursday.  This test was administered last Spring to students in grades K-5 as the next step in the Gifted Eligibility Process.  If you have any questions, please call Ms. Thibodeaux or Mrs. Willingham at 678-874-9302 to make an appointment to discuss the results.

SAY CHEEEESE!  PICTURE DAY IS SEPT. 12 AND 13

Individual picture days are Wed. Sept. 12 and Thurs. Sept. 13. Your child’s teacher will let you know which day.  This is a fundraiser for our PTA, so don’t forget to order a few extra photos for Grandma when the order forms are sent home.  We will need some help! We are looking for a couple of volunteers to help our photographer keep things moving smoothly and efficiently. Have a look at our sign up, and see where you might be able to lend a hand! Thanks!

5th GRADE YEARBOOK ADS

Parents of 5th graders:  Placing an ad in the yearbook is a great way to congratulate your child and show how much they have grown during their years at Fernbank! Ad reservations are due by Sept. 15 and ad artwork is due October 15.  Download the flyer here and give to your child's teacher.  Or do it here at our online store.

FERNBANK IS A HEALTHY SCHOOL - DON'T FORGET!

Just a reminder Fernbank is a healthy school! Please refrain from sending in sweets for birthdays, celebrations, and classroom snacks. Attached is a list of some healthy snacks!

TESTING, TESTING, 1,2,3!

At the beginning, in the middle and end of the year, students take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test. This adaptive test helps chart each child's proficiency and progress in various subjects during the school year. It helps our teachers tailor their curriculum to meet the needs of each of their students.

MAP testing has begun for some children and will continue in the coming couple of weeks. If you'd like to read more, visit our testing page!

TITLE I PARENT SURVEY

Our school is a Title I school, and as the parent/guardian of a child attending a Title I school you are an important part of the Title I team. Your input is vital in the planning and implementation of the parent and family engagement program and activities in our school. The focus of all Title I programs is to help eligible students meet the same high academic achievement standards expected of all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status and background. The following survey is confidential and will be used to assist us with future planning for parent and family engagement activities and events at our school.
