THIS WEEK'S HEADLINES

Parents, Your Principal Needs You!

Fernbank Elementary is the best school in the world, but we cannot keep it up without everybody's help - that means students, teachers, ME and YOU!!

It makes my day when I can get to know you, collaborate with you, and share in our students' efforts and accomplishments.  Please take a moment and fill out the parent survey - we can find a place that fits your busy schedule and it will make me soooooo happy!  Thank you, thank you - your involvement means everything!

~ Ms. Ray

We know it can be overwhelming to think about volunteering when you're new to Fernbank or have been here a while but just don't know where you might make the biggest impact. So, we have created a special volunteer page for you! Read all about our various leadership groups and committees, then take our volunteer survey so we can best match your talents and availability with our needs.

Fernbank can't run without the active participation our parents! There's an opportunity for everyone to engage, no matter your schedule.

Whatever you're good at - we would love to tap into YOUR talents!

Join us Monday, April 30, 2018, 6:00pm-7:00pm for our General PTA Meeting. We will vote on next year's executive slate and answer any questions you have about volunteering!

TESTING CONTINUES - VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!

Students have been doing an awesome job testing and there's still more to be done. We still need volunteers to be hall monitors during our Milestones and MAP testing periods. Please consider volunteering a shift! The testing periods are from 7:50-11:30 am. You don't have to work the whole shift to help out. If you can help, please sign up! Please make a note if you can only work a partial shift.

Parents of kids that are testing - remember:

  1. Limit evening activities prior to testing so that adequate time is provided for rest.

  2. Discuss the importance of testing with your son/daughter.

  3. Provide two #2 pencils daily.

  4. Provide a nutritious breakfast.

  5. Ensure your child is present and on time each morning. If possible, please avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during the testing period.

  6. If an issue arises that may impact your child’s performance, please contact a school counselor.

If you have questions regarding any aspect of testing, please contact Simone Willingham at 678-874-9302.

FERNBANK SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION EXTENDED

Considering the busy, busy week we had prior to Spring Break, we realize that some people may have had the opportunity to register for camp. We're extending the deadline until April 20th to make sure everyone has a chance to register.

Fernbank Elementary offers a fun-filled summer camp for rising Kindergartners through rising 6th grade students. It's a perfect way for new students to get introduced to the school!

LOOKING FOR A FUN RUN T-SHIRT?

Have you seen the cute T-shirts from the Fun Run?? Want one?

  • If you ordered and PAID for a T-shirt but didn't pick it up, email Sara Blanchard and we will get it to you!

  • If you ordered a T-shirt but did not submit payment online, you can purchase it and pick it up in the school store.

  • If you'd like a T-shirt but didn't preorder, that's okay! You can buy them from the school store directly. It's open from 7:20 - 7:40 am Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

THANK YOU FROM MS. FENLON!

Thank you, parents, for sending in your student's outgrown pants and shorts to the clinic! It's looking like we are now in great shape! We could use a few pairs of extra underwear (which we didn't originally ask for) - but I guess we can't have too many of those, especially since undies are rarely returned.

Thank you so much for helping us out!

ENDING PLASTIC POLUTION

Fernbank LOVES our earth!

The global theme for Earth Day 2018 is "Ending Plastic Pollution".Fernbank is already recycling and collecting plastic film for reuse. We are growing healthy vegetables in our garden which could help eliminate the need for wasteful plastic from packaged produce. We are reducing our plastic consumption by using stainless steel, reusable cutlery for school-wide events.

What else are we doing to take care of our earth?

• Do you say no to straws?

• Bring reusable water bottles to school?

• Reuse plastic containers?

• Take reusable bags to shop and refuse the plastic ones?

• Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth?

• Inspire your friends and family to develop green habits?

All the little green things we do have a positive impact on our environment. We can all make a difference!!

What green habits does your family already practice?

Please share and email us! Send pictures (and name/homeroom) of Fernbank students caught being green (by this Friday, 4/20) and we'll announce and have prizes for our earth day Ambassadors next week!

Let's celebrate earth day every day! Look out for courier flyer this Thursday for earth week ideas to go green/make healthy lifestyle changes for 2018.
